Clinical Study on 66 Cases of Varicocele


Abstract
A clinical study was made on sixty-six case of varicocele at the department of urology, Ildong A.F.G.H. from April 1983 to April 1986 and Andong hospital from May 1986 to October 1986.
The following results were obtained:
1. The age distribution was between 14 and 42 years old, showing the highest incidence in 3rd decade. Side of lesion showed 94% in left, 6% in bilaral.
2. The chief complaints of varicocele at admission showed worm like mass in 100.0%, inguinal dragging sensation in 68.2%, scrotal weight bearing sensation in 19.7% scrotal hematoma after blunt trauma in 6.1% discrepancy of scrotal size in 3.0% infertility in 3.0%.
3. After operation, the numbers of patients with oligospermia decreased from 7 to 4, impaired motility from 7 to 2, impaired morphology from 7 to 5 cases.
4. Postoperative complications showed varicocele recurrence in 2 cases, hydrocele requiring hydrocelectomy in 1case, epididymitis in 1 case, wound infection in 1 case.
5. Results of testicular biopsy in 16 subjects showed decreased spermatogenesis in 11 cases, premature sloughing of germinal elements in 8 cases, sprematic tubular thickening in 5 cases, normal testicular pattern in 4 cases.
